This was originally published in 2018. I only had one ball of yarn to knit and crochet with when I was young, so I can't cut yarn..never could steek, cut-n-sew or any of that. I hope you enjoy the article as much as I enjoy knitting.
The exhibits are beautiful and the volunteers were enthusiastic. They were friendly and knowledgeable and I learned a lot about lace. Of course since I am a knitter I am mostly interested in the knitted lace. It's also a shop so I bought a yard of handknit lace for only $3, it would take me 20 hours to knit..

I've been branching out and doing more sewing this year than knitting.

I made the I-Cord using a LC-150 knitting machine but it still took a long time. I crocheted the i-cord on to give it more elasticity and give. That took a long time so at the end I just sewed the i-cord on.

I used "cashmere" yarn from alibaba which doesn't feel like cashmere at all but it was cheap, I think $20 for several skeins. I knitted the head from the crown down because I didn't know how big the recipient's head was and this way I can adjust and test before sewing on all the i-cord.
The empty chairs represent the Jews killed there. But someone made something beautiful there by crocheting flowers on all the chairs. It seems to be jute rope rather than yarn but the effect is still the same.
I've seen this done in other stores in Europe but when I worked at a yarn store in the US and yarn bombed the post outside the store, the mall management removed it right away. Too bad. It's a great way to advertise because I wouldn't have noticed the off the main street yarn store otherwise. It actually was a craft store, not much yarn but worth stopping by.
I decided I needed softer handles so I bought some foam pencil holders from the dollar store. They are too big in diameter though, so I rolled one up, sew it along the length tightly and insert the needle through another one.
This is my latest design using Willow's fingering weight yarn. It's easy just lots of stockinette. The daisy stitch has elongated dropped stitches and there is short rowing to "straighten" the slanted hem. I attended one in Long Beach a few years back. It's kind of like Stitches without the crowds. And since I am not a retailer, I save a lot of money by not buying anything. I go to meet yarn companies that might want a designer. I picked up a few sample skeins.
It's on the left hand side when you walk from Ercolano Scavi train station to the site. Looks like RedHeart or similar yarn and not the fancy Italian stuff.
The Dubai mall is famous for its fountain show, twice the size of Bellagio's but it also has the best bookstore in the world, Kinokuniya. The books are all in English unfortunately, I was looking for Japanese knitting books. I noticed that prices are higher than the U.S. but it has two bookcases full of knitting books alone, including one with my Tied in Knots pattern in it. Makes me famous- worldwide. I just did the door handles since there isn't much spare time during work hours. Will work on bigger pieces outside as time permits.
It was getting pretty big and turning it around every 10 stitch row was cumbersome. So I showed her how to purl backwards (your can also knit backwards and purl normally). Either way you get garter stitch. This technique is really handy for entrelac.
First day on the job: rang up sales, try to find patterns for yarns that knitters liked using Ravelry, showing client how to use Ravelry search filters, help a customer who increased an extra stitch, gave advice on closures on a baby surprise jacket. All in all a good day of using knitting knowledge to help others.

Looking forward to teaching class.
It folds up to the size of a sewing machine and is the only mid-gauge punch card machine (except for its twin HK-160 that doesn't fold up.) I bought one last year but it broke in shipping (sad, it was in beautiful condition and even with insurance I had to pay for the shipping that broke it). But 3 members of my knitting guild emailed me on Sunday and told me there is one on ebay. So I couldn't resist. It works - for stockinette at least. I haven't tried other functions yet. Needs a real good cleaning too.
The yarn colors are beautiful, have to design something using it.
I didn't see TKGA or Redheart there. TKGA wasn't there last year either, I usually renew my Cast On subscription during Stitches because they give you a free past issue and I try to get one with my design in it for my mother. But they weren't there last year either. And I usually stop by Redheart because they sometimes display my designs.
However, the number of vendors seem to be the same, the hall is full as usual.Alice Tanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08849804120841640192noreply@blogger.com
